We have dreamt about owning a property in Italy that we can call a home. Somewhere where we can relax. But also somewhere that is not so secluded that you are far away from civilisation. We love the outdoors and being able to eat al fresco. We are passionate about food and wine. Particularly wine. Casa Dell'Aquila offers us the opportunity to indulge in so many of our passions. We hope you like it too...
THE PROPERTY
Casa Dell'Aquila is situated in a tranquil, bucolic area about 15 mins drive from Orvieto. The house was rebuilt in 2005 in the style of a farmhouse. There are 4 double bedrooms. Two of which are en-suite and the other two bedrooms share a bathroom. The ground floor has cotto tiles in all rooms with chestnut beamed ceilings. Whereas, the upstairs rooms have wooden floors and the same beautiful beamed ceilings. All windows have shutters with in-built mosquito nets. The house has been refurbished in 2021 and includes a new gas boiler and a very efficient and attractive wood burning stove that overrides the gas boiler when fired up.
The kitchen has all the tools a chef / cook would need. There is also a movable butchers block. Just outside there is an outside kitchen with in-built BBQ and functioning wood burning pizza oven.
In short, there is sufficient space and equipment available to have a very comfortable and memorable stay. Probably, the biggest plus is the very large portico with a travertine top table that seats at least 10 people. The portico also has comfortable seating for at least 8 people. This is a huge and welcome relief on hot days as you can be in the shade while sipping something delicious..

OUR ROOMS
Bedroom 1 - Downstairs with en-suite
This large double bedroom is on the ground floor and has a dressing table and large antique wardrobe. There is an entrance door to this area which leads to a small hallway. From here you open the door ahead to enter the bedroom or there is another door that is for the bathroom. This bathroom contains sink, toilet, bidet, shower and a modern, stacked washer and dryer.
Bedroom 2 - Upstairs
This large double bedroom contains a double bed and a single bed. It has a large chest of drawers, a wardrobe and two bedside tables.
Bedroom 3 - Upstairs
This large double bedroom contains a double bed and in-built wardrobe along the length of one wall. It also two bedside tables with bedside lamps.
Bedroom 4 - Upstairs with en-suite
This is the main bedroom and has a four poster double bed. It has a large chest of drawers and bedside tables with lamps. The en-suite bathroom has a large walk in shower, bidet, toilet and large bathroom sink.
THE POOL
The beautiful pool area lies on the lower terrace of the property, and can be accessed from the house via a path leading to a short flight of stairs. From the pool you are surrounded by more of the garden and have a good view of the of the property's olive trees and the apple orchard. The rectangular pool measures xm x 18m with the depth ranging from 1.5m to 3m. By the pool there is a gazebo with sun loungers and coffee tables, as well as an outdoor shower and table tennis.
THINGS TO DO
Vineyard Tours
There are many vineyards that you can visit nearby, including Madonna del Latte in Sugano and the famous Antinori vineyard at Castello della Sala.
Cultural Sites
Orvieto is a 15 minute drive away and has an amazing Cathedral, caves you can visit and a historic well (Pozzo di San Patrizio) that you must see to believe.
Day trips
Rome is an hour and half train journey away from Orvieto, and Florence is two hours away. By car there are many beautiful places to see nearby in Umbria including Todi, Montefalco, Assissi and Perugia.
Leisure Activities
There are tennis clubs nearby. There is also a nine-hole golf course 15 minutes away (Aquapendente Golf Club). Just over an hour away are natural hot springs in Terme di Saturnia. Or why not try a hiking trail including the Anello della Rupe loop around Orvieto.
Nearby places to visit
Civita di Bagnoregio is a hill top village which sits in an incredible but precarious position and can be accessed by foot bridge only. Lago di Bolsena is a tranquil volcanic lake that you can take trips around or eat well in the many cafes and restaurants in the town of Bolsena.
Horse Riding
